Al Nafoura Mall, owned by First Markets Company, a subsidiary of Jordan Duty Free Shops Company, received the Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certification, making it the first shopping mall in Jordan and the first building in Aqaba to receive this global green building accreditation. The ceremony was attended by His Excellency Mr. Omar Malhas, Chairman of the Social Security Investment Board, His Excellency Dr. Ezzedine Kanakrieh, Chairman of the Social Security Investment Fund, in addition to His Excellency Ayman Al-Awaysheh, Governor of Aqaba, and representatives of the security services, who added their gracious presence to the celebration. The certification ceremony was held in Aqaba under the patronage of Eng. Shadi Al-Majali, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, and was attended by Khawaja Aftab Ahmed, Regional Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for the Middle East (representing the World Bank). The ceremony also included a number of economic and social figures in the city, representatives of environmental organizations, and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the certification awarding body. The EDGE certification is one of the most prominent international certifications awarded to energy- and water-efficient buildings and building materials, contributing to reducing environmental impact and promoting sustainability in the construction and urban development sector. This achievement is a culmination of the Jordan Duty Free Company's efforts to implement best practices in sustainable design. It reflects its commitment to developing environmentally responsible projects that support the national drive towards green development and enhance Aqaba's position as a modern, environmentally friendly economic and tourism center. The company emphasized that this achievement aligns with the aspirations of His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to advance Aqaba as a model for sustainable development and balanced urban development in the Kingdom and the region.
